Leeds City Council with the help of Sport England and Sport Active have just competed a highly successful Lottery Funded venture at the Hub, which was held at the new six million pounds young persons out reach centre ,which was built on the site of the old Merlyn Rees high school in the south of Leeds.
This program was set up to bring together the communities of south Leeds in to getting fit and active though in the form of the Martial Arts.
The project was run under the Director of Mick Shuck smith of the Leeds leisure services, who brought in one of the countries leading Martial Artists Sensei Sean McHale, a veteran Martial Artist of 44 years.
Sean has more Black Belts than most tailors, who ran the initial 12 weeks period of free Martial Arts lessons.
Sensei Sean started off by putting their students though a gruelling 12 weeks program of exercise and Martial Art training, where they were taught how to throw, kick, punch kick and how to defend themselves against knife, with real life scenarios, which to any bystander who might have looked in, would have thought it was an army special forces training boot camp ,rather than a Dojo, but the students loved it.
This project was so successful, that it not only drew people from the target areas of LS11 and LS10, but also from all over Leeds and Bradford.
Sensei Sean and his instructors, didn’t just teach them one of the most practical martial arts in the world but also try to improve their students lives by showing them, what they could achieve by being good role models and being someone they could talk to and hopefully in a way that didn’t seem too lame!
Hopefully it helped their students to understand and respect the message they were trying to give.
After knowing their instructors who were ex world champions and a international coaches helped them to take more notice.
And when they did have more challenging students that needed a little extra attention, it always helped to have instructors that where built like brick**** houses or in a couple of other cases some who looked like shaven gorillas ,which Tai Jutsu Leeds seem to have in abundance, but who all turn out to be some of nicest guys around.
